About

Northern Xscape Rentals is a jet ski and snowmobile rental company based in Ontario, Canada, with three locations in Haliburton, Huntsville, and Buckhorn. Their goal is to provide customers with a truly memorable adventure without the hassle of owning bulky sports equipment. With the increasing trend of post-pandemic travel, there is an opportunity to attract customers through an efficient and easy online booking experience.

In this case study, I researched and developed a user-friendly application to help customers access the services with ease. The study includes an introduction page, an overview of the company, a problem statement, a proposed solution, a competitive analysis chart, user persona, storyboard, low-fidelity wireframes created in Adobe XD, and high-fidelity prototype wireframes.

Overview

Competitive Analysis

A competitive analysis was conducted on three power sport rental companies, Sportrentals, Ontariopower Sports, and Getmyboat, to understand the current market landscape in North America. The analysis found that there is a lack of competitors offering mobile applications for jet ski and snowmobile rentals. This presents an opportunity for Northern Xscape Rentals to stand out in the market with a well-designed, user-friendly app.

The analysis highlights the importance of a well-organized and easy-to-navigate design to encourage customer use. The rental policies, which contain a lot of information, should be easily accessible and legible. Additionally, a sign-up and account system is crucial to allow users to track and save their data, enabling them to easily reorder previous rentals. By incorporating these findings into the app design, Northern Xscape Rentals will be better positioned to meet the needs and expectations of customers in the power sport rental market.

User Persona

After the research, I conducted a user persona of potential user. Ned is a Canadian software engineer who values convenience and a pleasant experience while on holiday with his wife. He is frustrated by the time spent booking travel and activities and seeks a flawless and memorable vacation. His motivations include spending quality time with his wife and sharing experiences on social media. Understanding Ned's goals, frustrations, and motivations will inform the design of a user-friendly and efficient app for power sport rentals.

Storyboard

This storyboard is a visual representation of the user journey and helps to understand the users' experience with the app. It shows the need for a simplified rental process, providing a time-saving and pleasant experience for the users. This will encourage customers to use the app in the future. The storyboard will inform the design of a user-friendly and efficient app for power sport renters.

User Flow Diagram

The user flow diagram for the Northern Xscape Rentals app highlights the key steps a user will take to complete a power sport rental booking. It provides a visual representation of the journey from discovering the app, to creating an account, to finding and selecting a rental, and finally to making a successful booking.

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

Low-fidelity wireframes are early sketches of the user interface that help to visualize and test the functionality of the app. For Northern Xscape Rentals, low-fidelity wireframes will serve as a foundation to explore and test the key features of the app. These wireframes will help to map out the user flow, including the rental process, sign-up, and account system, and the display of rental policies and information. The wireframes will also help to ensure that the app is intuitive and user-friendly, allowing customers to easily find what they are looking for and complete their rental experience smoothly.

High-Fidelity Wireframes

High-fidelity wireframes are detailed representations of the user interface that closely resemble the final product. In the case of Northern Xscape Rentals, high-fidelity wireframes help to visualize and refine the look and feel of the app, ensuring that it is user-friendly and intuitive. The wireframes help to communicate the design solutions to stakeholders and developers, ensuring that everyone has a clear understanding of the desired end product. This step is critical in ensuring that the final product meets the needs of the target users and provides a seamless and convenient experience for power sport rentals.
